there has been a recent announcement that whole foods is opening up in the old rite aid location at 55-60 Myrtle Ave, just a few blocks from the skinny apartment. this comes just after the rainbow nextdoor turned into a Wonder ghost kitchen, owned by billionaire marc lore, known among many things as being a former walmart executive as well as having an ongoing proposal to develop a utopian post-capitalist city named "telosa". this is also after meir babaev's "the ridgewood" at 3-50 st nicholas ave continues to loom over the skyline of the town, unfinished for nearly 10 years. as this continues, Outfront, the international advertising and marketing firm that handles all of the print and video ads on the NYC subway, pumps our brains full of ludovico technique-style ads for AI google gemini garbage, stockbroker apps, gambling services, and GLP-1s. we face a fare hike of an even $3 at the end of the month, as private equity takes over our subway's payment system, as Veritas Capital owns OMNY, which we will all be forced to use in the coming 2 weeks as the metrocard is retired.
now that accelerationist shithead andrew cuomo is no longer able to be the mayor of new york city for at least 4 years, i feel confident in saying that i have little to no faith in mayor-elect president mamdani's ability to actually stand up for the common person in nyc. the man runs on a cult of personality platform marked by overly-YIMBY property development policies that benefit landlords and property developers more than they may benefit tenants. i will be pleasantly surprised if he manages to stand up to most of the plaguing issues of NYC at this time. i'm not fundamentally opposed to him, the way i am to an individual like cuomo, but i do refuse to be reliant on a politician to stand against money and corporate america.
the new subway cars have 6 cameras per car. when i step onto the subway and am greeted by overt surveillance and the hyper-flashing of screens that display ads for the most depressing aspects of human life (alongside shit like the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater's run at City Center hahahahahahahaha sorry) my ambient energy is sucked down into a pit of darkness. the world is getting homogenized by those who have money and the homogenization is taking place in the form of a massive shitstain smear across the entire planet, wiped by the hands of the world's richest. those like crown prince mohammad bin salman who has been in charge of the cultural homogenization that is the saudi vision 2030 project, an attempt to put saudi arabia's broad wealth into a pr campaign to rehabilitate their image of being an oppressive regime that commits acts of brutality against civilians, journalists, and migrants from nations like bangladesh and pakistan. by inviting american acts like post malone and cardi b, they can homogenize and legitimize their own cultural landscape (despite being a country defined by censorship and religious theocracy) by placing their own artists on the same stage as those from a country that presents itself as if it has allowed creative expression for a long time (not that we do lol) next to its own young artists kept out of the loop of the brutal history of either country. at the same time, on a national scale in the US, there is massive and accelerated consolidation of media companies and large data companies - openAI and disney, warner and netflix. there is collaboration between the american state and entertainers - the obamas are literally making a fucking HBO show with larry david.
we need to discomfort ourselves and completely divest from the entertainment industry as a whole. we must prevent ourselves from patronizing any single service. no HBO, no netflix, no paramount plus SNL reruns, no thanksgiving day parade, no new vince gilligan show on apple plus, no youtube videos, no spotify streams, no tidal, no nothing. but,
i havent given these people a fucking cent and yet they creep into my life. they take over our vacant real estate and build competing national chains in our communities and rape us of our identity in exchange for the privilege of the convenience of being able to go to putnam and myrtle and buy a $6 bag of amazon brand tortilla chips from the whole foods where i used to pick up my medicine. all industries operate like competing families of the fucking cosa nostra. every day i get on the train and i see marshawn lynch spraying his balls in front of young children or i see ads plastered on the side of skyscrapers advocating that we no longer hire human beings to work jobs and instead replace them with LLMs or i have to deal with the motherfucking cocksucking piece of shit CVS self checkout. and every day i am withered down into a state of feeling completely backed into a corner. a corner threatened by no choice but to conform. if you call out conformist behavior you are seen as callous and pretentious. i will no longer care about this. if you buy shit from amazon you are a conformist piece of shit. if you step foot in the future burlington coat factory being built directly next to the ICE raids on myrtle wyckoff you are a conformist piece of shit. if you pay money to watch or listen to music on a major streaming service, you are a conformist piece of shit. these are the bare minimum laziest ways to divest yourself from this horrible universe we are careening towards. this requires absolutely no disruption or no act of violence. and yet most people struggle with this much! it feels like were past the point of civil disruption's efficacy because we'd simply be swallowed into the amorphous slave-blob of the prison system. and yet disobedience may be what saves us
